Clan and Banner Background

The Huyulu clan is discussed in volume 56 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners, with Ula given as its ancestral region. Huniu of the Plain Blue Banner submitted early and served repeatedly as a vanguard in campaigns toward Jinzhou, earning yunqiwei. Imperial favour raised the award to third-class qingche duwei. His status as a vanguard referred to duties in advance, reconnaissance, and combat, not to birth order within the family.

Family Service and Distinctions

Huniu later campaigned in Guizhou against Luo Dashun near Shiwanqi Ridge and fought Zheng Chenggong's forces at Jiangning during a return movement, receiving another rise to second-class qingche duwei. The distinction passed to his son Sange, grandsons Chenbu and Qishibu, and other successors, but retirements and reviews reduced the inherited rank at points. Qishibu was succeeded by his brother Buku, who inherited qidu wei; a collateral relative, Tukeshan, later inherited the award at the grade yunqiwei.

Kinship, Succession, and Evidence

The account concerns changing hereditary entitlement over generations, not a series of promotions held simultaneously by every successor. A second-class qingche duwei attained by one ancestor does not establish the grade later held by each descendant. Place-names, genealogical punctuation, and dates of reductions still require collation with the original edition.
