Clan and Banner Background
The Meile clan is documented in volume 50 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners, with ancestral homes in Yehe and Hada. Xiben'e, a Bordered Yellow Banner booi from Yehe, submitted early. His grandson Ehetu was the first to scale a wall in an attack on Changzi County, earning yunqiwei, later increased through imperial favour to qidu wei with an additional yunqiwei. The distinction passed to descendants including Qiketeng. Other descendants, Manpi and Namusali, held an assistant directorship and niru command.
Family Service and Distinctions
Shuotai of the Plain Red Banner founded another early-submitting Hada line. His son Shuo'erhe served as an acting guard-company officer in campaigns in Yunnan, gaining yunqiwei at Shimenkan and Huangcaoba. After retiring because of age, he was succeeded by his son Heluntai. The genealogy additionally lists Bordered Yellow Banner booi and other Plain Yellow and Plain Red Banner branches, with descendants serving in military, documentary, and storehouse positions.
Kinship, Succession, and Evidence
Hereditary titles for military merit, acting company appointments, and permanent administrative offices must be recorded separately. Booi indicates a particular banner-household relationship. People with this surname did not necessarily share one registration or a single recent ancestor; exact names, dates, and branch connections require verification.
