Clan and Banner Background

Volume 39 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners explains Nimaca as a place-name later used for a Manchu surname. Its genealogical material includes the Nimaca area and lineages from Lafa, Heilongjiang, Jilin Ula, Neyin, and other places. The place-name origin is explicitly stated, but its meaning should not be reconstructed from the Chinese characters without Manchu-language evidence.

Family Service and Distinctions

An earlier section of the same volume lists a Huihe family from Nimaca, demonstrating that the locality and the Nimaca surname were not coterminous. The Nimaca section includes lines associated with Aibo Baturu and Jimuku, under several banner registrations; some are marked as booi. It is therefore impossible to assign one banner or one household-status category to all families with this surname.

Kinship, Succession, and Evidence

Distinctions such as qidu wei and qingche duwei were hereditary military honours, while niru command, imperial bodyguard duty, and bithesi service were actual posts; gongsheng denoted an educational qualification. The genealogy is a valuable index to names and careers, but offices listed under an ancestor belong to the descendants who held them. Identifications of Nimaca's modern location, relationships among branches, and precise Manchu clan spelling require consultation of primary editions and independent evidence.
