Overview

Volume 15 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners* includes Asulan in the appendix of the Irgen Gioro clan. His banner affiliation is listed as Bordered Yellow Banner, and his ancestral home is "Hurha." He is placed in the group "Year of Arrival Unknown." The genealogy records his resume as follows: he himself was originally a Xiaoqi Xiao (xiaoqixiao), his son Huzhune was originally a Xiaoqi Xiao, and his grandson Liushi was originally a Fu Hujun Xiao (deputy hujunxiao). The original entry clearly records these titles under his name. The kinship hierarchy and statuses such as "former" and "current" are retained as in the original entry. At this stage, Asulan's official rank, grade, or birth and death are not inferred from the official positions of his descendants. Related institutional terms must be understood according to the Qing Dynasty context: Fu Hujun Xiao was a low-level auxiliary military officer in the Hujun camp; the title indicates a deputy position and cannot be arbitrarily equated with the head of the Hujun camp. Xiaoqi Xiao was a low-level military officer under the Eight Banners Zuoling system, assisting in the management, training, and dispatch of bannermen; it was not a modern school title. "Huerha" retains the historical place name spelling in genealogy books; there may be different places with the same name, different spellings, and changes in jurisdiction, so it cannot be directly matched with a certain administrative region today.
