Overview
In the genealogy, Yilanmu is categorized as a historical place name and clan ancestral home, not a person. The preface to official Qing dynasty genealogies stipulates that different branches of the same surname should be distinguished by their original place of origin, and the ancestral home should be noted under each name. Therefore, the core meaning of "Yilanmu" is an ancestral home label in genealogies. The *Qinding Baqi Tongzhi* (Imperially Commissioned Comprehensive Gazetteer of the Eight Banners) and related research list Yilanmu in the ancestral home sequence of clans such as Tatara. This only proves that the name was once used as a clan's ancestral home; it cannot be used to determine a person's branch based solely on shared names, nor can it directly pinpoint a present-day county, city, or village. Existing secondary sources do not entirely agree on its modern equivalent and often lack a chain of evidence from the original text to the coordinates. Therefore, this entry retains the original word form and the scope of evidence, without providing a single modern location; further verification should be made by comparing the original inscription, Manchu writing, neighboring branches, and local gazetteers.
