Overview

Bai Qine was a member of the Wuzhala clan of the Plain White Banner during the early Qing Dynasty. Volume 30 of the official Qing Dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that his family originally lived in the Ula region and submitted to the Qing at the beginning of the dynasty. His grandson, Daihan, participated in the battles of Jinzhou, the entry into the pass, and Jiangnan as a military commander, earning the rank of Qiduwei. He was further promoted to Yunqiwei for his role in the attack on Changshu County. The position of Military Commander was a military officer within the Imperial Guard, while Qiduwei and Yunqiwei were hereditary titles awarded for merit; these should not be confused with military rank.

Daihan's son, Dardu, inherited the title and was promoted to Third-class Qingche duwei by imperial decree, serving as a Second-Class Imperial Guard. His brother, Aldu, who had no heir, inherited the title, and his descendants removed the portion added by imperial decree, retaining only the rank of Qiduwei and Yunqiwei. Another member of Bai Qine's family, Satab, was the vanguard in the attack on Xiajin, earning the title of Baturu and Qiduwei; this was an independent military achievement for his branch.

Baturu was an honorary title, while Imperial Guard was a position of imperial bodyguard, and hereditary titles had separate rules of succession. Both awards should not be entirely attributed to Bai Qine. The lineage of Bai, Bai-shaped buildings, the former residence of Wula, and the lineage of the heirless collateral branches needs verification; the modern area of Wula can be referenced to Wula Street, Longtan District, Jilin City.
