Overview
Buketao was a member of the Ujara clan of the Plain Yellow Banner. Volume 30 of the official Qing dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that his family originally lived in Wadan. The year of his submission is unknown, but due to generations of family service, he was awarded the title of Qiduwei. In the 17th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, he led his clan to Shenyang and Yizhou, receiving the additional title of Yunqiwei. He also served as a Minister of the Imperial Guard. The year of his migration is clear and should not be confused with the unknown year of his submission.
The title of Qiduwei combined with Yunqiwei was a hereditary combination, while Minister of the Imperial Guard was an official title within the imperial guard system. The two titles can be listed together but are different in nature. After Buketao's death, his son Erbe succeeded him, then his brother Eqili; Eqili had no heir, so his younger brother's son, Erjishan, succeeded him. The original genealogy records the latter as a Third-Class Imperial Guard and concurrently a zuoling (banner-company commander).
Third-Class Imperial Guards participated in the emperor's guard duties, while zuoling managed the household registration and military records of the lower-level banner people; these concurrent positions could not be omitted. The original genealogy also lists his son, Tuohuoluoku, as a zuoling, and his grandson, Wufu, as a Blue-Lanyard Imperial Guard. Shenyang refers to present-day Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. In the early Qing Dynasty, it served as the capital of both the Later Jin and Qing dynasties, providing a political context for the migration, but it does not confirm the specific residence. The location of Wadan, the migration area of Yizhou, and the kinship chain need further verification.
