Overview

Azhuhu was a member of the Lijia clan of the Plain Red Banner during the early Qing Dynasty. The official Qing Dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, Volume 33, appendix on the Zakumu region, states that they were of the same clan as Tong Guo. Their fourth-generation descendant, Zhafuta, served as an infantry officer, and Zhandai as a guard officer. Their fifth-generation descendant, Zhaolai, served as a guard commander at the time of compilation. The appendix states that their ancestral home was in Zakumu and that they submitted to the Qing Dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty. Clan relationships were based on clan annotations, not directly presumed to be brothers or fathers and sons.

The Plain Red Banner was one of the Eight Banners. Banner members participated in military service and household registration through their assigned units. Infantry officers belonged to the infantry system, guard officers led their assigned guards and were responsible for duty, while guard commanders had a broader scope of duties including leading guards and providing security. There were differences in battalion and rank, and the three official titles were not interchangeable.

The fourth and fifth generations were recorded according to the original genealogy. Later generations holding similar military positions did not automatically constitute hereditary succession. Zhaolai's current status only corresponds to the compilation point in time; specific dates cannot be provided, nor can it be considered as Azhuhu's personal career. The location of Zakumu, the connection across four or five generations, and the specific organization of the guards are pending verification.
