Overview
Zhalimu was a member of the Jingheli clan of the Plain Yellow Banner. Volume 36 of the official Qing dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that he was of the same clan as Baldachi and surrendered together during the Shunzhi reign, receiving the title of Qiduwei and later, by imperial decree, being promoted to Third-class Qingche duwei. The clan affiliation and simultaneous surrender indicate family ties and historical actions, respectively, and cannot be used to establish a brotherly relationship. His Plain Yellow Banner affiliation differed from Baldachi's Plain White Banner affiliation.
His hereditary title was inherited by his second son, Berhetu, then passed to his nephew, Zaobao, who retained the Qiduwei title after deducting the imperial decree's additional grant, before being inherited by Baiyibao. His eldest son, Hanchumai, was a seventh-rank official. Qiduwei and Qingche duwei were hereditary titles that could be inherited; the seventh-rank title only indicates the official rank, not the full substantive position, and should not be used to specify Hanchumai's official office.
His cousins, Zhuonuo and Tuzhan, also surrendered and received the title of Qiduwei, with additional imperial decrees granting them titles, which were later inherited by their descendants. When the Tuzhan branch was passed down to Wenbao, the imperial edict granting it the title of Qiduwei was deducted, but it was retained and then inherited by Liushiba. Liushiba is a personal name here and cannot be taken as the age of the successor. Different branches must be handled separately. The ancestral home, the date of Shunzhi's surrender, and the relatives and branches of Zaobao need to be verified against the original engraving and hereditary official records.
