Overview
Majili was a member of the Lubuli clan, a bondservant of the Bordered Blue Banner. Volume 39 of the official Qing dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that his family resided in Waselu, Changbai Mountain, and that he submitted to the Qing during the Tiancong era, originally serving as a military officer. Tiancong was the reign title used by Huang Taiji during the Later Jin dynasty, indicating that his submission predates the Qing's entry into China. Waselu is the specific name of his ancestral home in the original genealogy and should not be omitted as referring to his later post.
The Bordered Blue Banner was one of the Eight Banners. Bondservants (baoyi) were a group with a specific subordinate relationship within the banner system and cannot be simply equated with modern employees. Bondservant status and the ability to hold official positions are not the same issue. The original genealogy clearly records Majili's position as a military officer; both his status and position should be stated simultaneously, and his military post should not be omitted simply because he was a bondservant.
The military officer was part of the military guard system, responsible for relevant personnel and military affairs; it was a substantive position, unlike hereditary positions such as Yunqiwei. The specific management system to which I belong should be determined based on the materials I am affiliated with, and cannot be simply listed as any one of the various agencies under the Imperial Household Department. The modern location, specific affiliation, and assigned position within the Guard Academy provided by Vase Road await verification from the original printed source and archives.
