Overview
Oromu belonged to the Zhangjia clan of the Bordered Red Banner. Volume 40 of the official Qing dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that his family resided in the Heji River area and submitted to the Qing during the Tiancong era. Tiancong was the reign title used by Huang Taiji during the Later Jin dynasty, predating the Qing's entry into China; Heji River was the name of his ancestral home and cannot be simply equated to a modern river based on similar pronunciation.
His great-grandson, Muchengge, served as a third-class guard, and Suilata as a Qiduwei. His fourth-generation descendants, Yangsang'a, served as a chant master, Bashi as a Qiduwei, and Sanyatu as a deputy Qiduwei. A third-class guard is different from a palace guard, and the distinction between Qiduwei and deputy Qiduwei must be retained. Bashi is a personal name, not his age at the time of his appointment.
A chant master was responsible for guiding and chanting during ceremonies, a specific ceremonial official position, and should not be interpreted as a title of praise. The digitized source contains an unresolved pair of rare graphs, and the standardized interpretation and original text verification are handled separately. Ceremonial and military positions belonged to different descendants and cannot be combined to explain Oromu's promotions. The text includes information on the modern correspondence between Hejihe and Mingzan, the original printed source's characters and institutions, the dates of submission and the lineage of each descendant, and the original printed source and archives awaiting verification.
