Overview
Iketeng was a member of the Ilari clan, belonging to the Bordered Blue Banner, and his family had lived in Huifa for generations before submitting to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty. Volume 47 of the official Qing dynasty compilation, *the Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, explicitly states in the entry for Erikeng of Ula that the two were of the same clan, providing evidence for linking the two branches. Huifa is a historical place name in Northeast China; the ruins of the ancient city of Huifa still exist in Huinan County, Jilin Province. This can only be used for geographical reference and cannot be used to infer that Iketeng and Erikeng lived in the same village based on their clan relationship.
Iketeng's grandson, Sotehai, served as a cavalry captain; his great-grandson, Weihene, served as the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Guangzhou; Suoerbi served as a Reader-in-Waiting in the Cabinet; and Dase served as a City Gate Captain. The Deputy Commander-in-Chief assisted in commanding the corresponding banner camps, the City Gate Captain was responsible for city gate guard duties, and the Reader-in-Waiting in the Cabinet belonged to the central civil service system; these three positions cannot be categorized as the same type of military officer. Records also include those of officials such as Langzhong, Yuanwailang, Zuoling, Bitieshi, and Shengyuan; Bitieshi handled clerical affairs, while Shengyuan held a school qualification, and the two were distinct. This family record involves garrisoning in the south, guarding the capital, and civil service institutions, but these activities belong to descendants and do not prove that Iketeng himself ever went to Guangzhou. Specific terms of office, lineage of each branch, and the original names of the engravers still need to be verified.
