Overview
Bai Dase was a member of the Saharji clan during the Qing Dynasty, listed in Volume 55 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners* under the entry for Bolengtai. He was Bolengtai's great-grandson and served as a military officer at the time of compilation. This branch belonged to the Plain Red Banner, and the family had lived in Yehe for generations. Bolengtai was listed as one of those who surrendered at the beginning of the dynasty.
The military officer was a low-ranking official in the military organization, involved in the management and training of the soldiers under his command. The military system was related to matters such as guarding and escorting. Military commanders and captains had higher-level supervisory responsibilities; therefore, the military officer could not be described as the commander of the entire battalion. The original text also does not mention any specific instance of Bai Dase participating in a particular expedition or escorting the emperor.
Saharji was a Manchu clan name. The Plain Red Banner was part of the Eight Banners system. Yehe was the family's ancestral homeland. The family's total residence also included Baidune, but this does not mean that Bai Dase himself lived there; the bondservant status of other branches of the clan was not transferred to this branch. The great-grandson relationship indicates the generational distance between him and his ancestors. The early days of his return to the motherland cannot be used as the date of Bai Dase's office. The current position is based on the compilation era, and personal term of office, specific military unit, and birth and death information still need to be supplemented and verified through official appointment and household registration records.
