Overview
The Mangjichuo clan is a Manchu surname listed in Volume 61 of the official genealogy of the Manchu clans of the Eight Banners, compiled during the Qianlong reign. They resided in Yehe. The year of Nima Shan's submission is unknown, but the genealogy records him as a bondservant of the Bordered White Banner, noting his transfer from the Plain Yellow Banner. His grandson, Zhuqing'e, served as a principal official, and his great-grandson, Danba, served as a ceremonial official.
A principal official was a civil official in ministries and departments, handling related administrative affairs and documents; a ceremonial official handled ceremonial matters within the government. These two positions belonged to his grandson and great-grandson respectively, and cannot be included in Nima Shan's own resume, nor can they be written as a hereditary succession of the same official position simply because they belonged to the same family. The specific government office of the principal official and the government office of the ceremonial official are not specified in the original text.
Boatsership refers to a specific affiliation and organizational category, which is a different level of information from official rank and banner color. The transfer from the Plain Yellow Banner to the Bordered White Banner indicates a change in the family's banner affiliation; it is inappropriate to directly assume that the banner affiliation at the time of the genealogy's compilation was an unchanging status from the time of submission. Yehe is the ancestral homeland, but the village or birthplace cannot be determined solely by this name; the surname is not merged with other "Mangji" clans due to similar pronunciation in Chinese characters. The date of the change of affiliation, the complete paternal chain, and the Manchu surname still need to be verified.
