Overview
Wang Zheng is recorded in Volume 77 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, under the entry for the Wang clan. He was a bannerman of the Plain White Banner, and his family had lived in Shenyang for generations. The year of their submission to the Manchus is unknown. The original text does not record any official positions held by Wang Zheng himself, but focuses on the official positions held by his sons, great-grandsons, and even later generations. Therefore, this is a historical record valuable only through genealogical clues.
The genealogy records that his son, Wang San, once served as a zuoling (military officer). His great-grandson, Wang Jitu, served as a Yuanwailang (official in charge) and zuoling, while Fu Ning served as a Bitieshi (scribe). His fourth-generation descendant, Si Ge, served as a Yuanwailang and zuoling, Si Ge as a Third-Class Imperial Guard, Yong Bao as a Langzhong (official in charge) and zuoling, and Man Dou as a Hujunxiao (military officer). His fifth-generation descendant, Lei Bao, served as a Weishu Hujun Canling (acting military officer) when the genealogy was being compiled, Man Du as a Shiwei Shu Canling (military officer), and Garbi as a Hujunxiao (military officer).
The term "JianZuoLing" (jiān zuǒ lǐng) refers to a single descendant holding two titles simultaneously, which cannot be split between two individuals. "WeiShuHuJunCanLing" (wěi shǔ hū jūn cān lǐ) indicates an acting position, not equivalent to a formally appointed Hu Jūn lǐng. The fact that different descendants held the position of ZuoLing is insufficient to prove that Wang San's ZuoLing position was inherited continuously among them. Wang Zheng's own life cannot be deduced from the resumes of his descendants.
