Overview
The Yu family is listed in Volume 77 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners* under the Nikan surnames within the Manchu Banners, recording three branches: Yu Dashi, Yu Yingju, and Yu Zhixiang. Yu Dashi was a bondservant of the Plain White Banner, residing in Shenyang. His son, Yu Linjiao, served as a clerk, and his great-grandson, Nalantai, served as a clerk when the genealogy was compiled. Yu Yingju belonged to the Plain White Banner and also resided in Shenyang. His son, Yu Shilong, served as a military officer, and his grandson, Yu Zide, served as a scribe.
The Yu Zhixiang branch belonged to the Bordered Blue Banner, originally from Shenyang. They submitted to the Qing dynasty during the Tiancong era, and his grandson, Yu Erge, served as a seventh-rank official. Tiancong was the reign title from 1627 to 1636; this submission date falls before the Qing dynasty entered the Central Plains. The submission dates of the other two branches are not recorded.
A clerk was a civil official within a government office, handling departmental affairs and official documents. The same title could be held in multiple institutions, so it cannot be directly concluded that Yu Linjiao and Nalantai served in the same office. The military academy was involved in the management, training, and guard duties of the military personnel; the scribes (bi tie shi) were responsible for document processing and translation. The "seventh-rank official" in the second category only specifies the rank; the specific job title, term of office, and lineage details are pending verification and will not be supplemented at this time.
