Overview
The Guangjiala surname appears in fascicle 58 of the Genealogies of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners (Baqi Manzhou shizu tongpu). The compilation associates bearers of this clan name with both Yehe and Girin Ula (Jilin Ula) and registers individuals under different Banner affiliations. Its evidence must therefore be read as several historically situated lineage notices, not as a complete reconstruction of a single modern family.
Historical Background
For the Yehe group, the source identifies Qitangyi as belonging to the Plain White Banner. It records that his fourth-generation descendant Huandai held a post as an officer of the imperial guards (hujunxiao) at the time of compilation, and that the sixth-generation descendant Baidase served as a cavalry officer (xiaoqixiao). For the Jilin Ula group, Zharbu belonged to the Bordered White Banner. His great-grandson Huashan formerly held a guard-officer post, Keshan was then serving in that capacity, and the fourth-generation descendant Sanhe held a cavalry-officer post.
Sources and Interpretation
Both notices are placed among lineages that submitted to the early Qing state. Yet the genealogy does not establish a documented migration route connecting the two groups, nor does it supply an independently verifiable common ancestor. Shared spelling is not proof of close kinship. The terms “formerly held” and “currently held” also record different temporal relationships to office; the latter refers to the compilation period. This entry documents a historical clan name, Banner registration, and named descendants, without projecting those data onto present-day surnames.
