Background and Banner Affiliation
Wazhu was a Guwalgiya member of the Bordered White Banner whose family lived in the Warka region. Volume 2 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners records him leading fellow clansmen into Qing allegiance during the early period. A niru, or banner company, was organized from the population, and Wazhu himself became its commander. His son Mingwu and grandson Huniu also served as niru commanders. Unlike entries in which a son alone commanded the submitted company, this one expressly attributes company leadership to the ancestor.
Career, Campaigns, and Offices
A niru was both a registered unit of households and a military organization. Three successive generations holding that office do not, without further evidence, prove that they all commanded the same numbered company or served under exactly the same conditions.
Hereditary Honors and Source Limits
Wazhu's great-grandsons entered different branches of government. Aisu became vice-minister of the Board of Rites; Kantai served as a censor; and Mushan was a banner colonel while also holding an assistant directorship in a civil bureau. The genealogy separately records military distinctions earned by Hedase and Jihali, descendants of Wazhu's elder brother Yierdu. Their yunqiwei awards belonged to that collateral branch, not to Wazhu. The precise geography of the ancestral Warka settlement and the sequence of company succession require further investigation.
