Background and Banner Affiliation
Wubai was the eldest son of Wulikan of the Guwalgiya clan, registered in the Plain White Banner. According to volume 4 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners, Nurhaci took him into the inner court for upbringing and granted him the Gioro surname. This was a personal distinction and does not erase his father's original clan identity. Wubai succeeded to his father's niru command and was counted among the early Qing Sixteen Ministers.
Career, Campaigns, and Offices
His long military record included operations in Liaodong, around Ningyuan, in Korea, at Jinzhou, during the Qing entry into China proper, and in the pursuit of Tenggis. The genealogy traces repeated increases and reductions in hereditary ranks following military achievement, disciplinary sanctions and later restoration. Those ranks—qidu wei, qingche duwei, baron, viscount and count—were not successive jobs in a single department. Wubai later became a senior inner-court official while retaining a banner company command. Upon retirement an earned first-class viscountcy was restored; after death he received the posthumous name Guozhuang.
Hereditary Honors and Source Limits
His son Langtan later inherited distinctions and served separately as a deliberative minister, senior imperial guard commander, dutong and general. Later heirs included Laxin and Yingzhao. Their offices should not be inserted into Wubai's own career. The original genealogical spelling of his name is retained pending further source comparison.
