Clan and Banner Background
The Xiketeli clan is documented in volume 34 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners. The volume associates its branches with Guareca, the Songhua River, Yilan Fe'ertaha, the Xila River and other locations. Members belonged to several distinct banner divisions, including the Plain Yellow, Plain Red, Bordered Red and Plain White Banners. A common clan heading should not be mistaken for a single company or banner registration.
Family Service and Distinctions
Yineke submitted early and originally received the hereditary award yunqiwei; members of the next generations acquired additional bodyguard appointments and military distinctions. Tanaka brought 300 people into Qing allegiance during the Tiancong reign and was organized into a niru, or banner company. He was killed while campaigning at Lüshunkou. Another figure, Ga'erjiu, earned hereditary distinctions through official service and the recapture of fugitives. The size of Tanaka's following and the reasons for Ga'erjiu's award belong to these particular persons, not to every clan branch.
Kinship, Succession, and Evidence
A niru was both a banner administrative unit and an institution with its own commander. Ranks such as qidu wei and qingche duwei could be inherited subject to formal regulation but were not identical to field command. Differences between early submission, Tiancong-period allegiance and Kangxi-era returns from Khorchin require branch-specific chronology. Source: Eight Banners Manchu Clan Genealogy, vol. 34.
