Clan and Banner Background
The Jeli clan appears in volume 56 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners and is associated with Hada. Its principal ancestor, Engelü of the Bordered Yellow Banner, submitted during the Tiancong years beginning in 1627. The date characterizes this generation's incorporation into the Later Jin, not the lifetime of every descendant listed in the same passage.
Family Service and Distinctions
Engelü's son Kaxiqi served as an official of the fifth grade and was killed fighting Wang Pingfan's troops at Luomen in Shaanxi. He received a posthumous yunqiwei. His son Changcun inherited the award and served as xieling, an assistant banner commander; after Changcun's death, his own son Fouerhun succeeded. The record gives Kaxiqi's grade, not the title of his office, which should therefore not be supplied by conjecture.
Kinship, Succession, and Evidence
Another grandson, Hushta, served as second-class imperial bodyguard and bodyguard squad leader. A great-grandson, Fugui, held the post of provincial financial commissioner in Yunnan; other descendants served as defence officers and cavalry-company officers. A financial commissioner managed provincial accounts, while a bodyguard squad leader organized palace guard service and a xieling handled banner troops. Their duties should not be merged. The exact site of Hada and the duration of individual appointments remain uncertain.
