Clan and Banner Background

The Kuyala clan is recorded in volume 34 of the Comprehensive Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners. Its members were associated with Xingkan village and other places. Accounts of Kecheni, Bukede, and Jakuna are presented separately, with further people such as Aitai and Huihelun appended. Their common clan heading does not make Xingkan the birthplace of every branch.

Family Service and Distinctions

Kecheni of the Plain White Banner participated early in guiding forces, persuading people to submit, and military captures. He received a hereditary distinction and served as niru commander. Bukede of the Bordered Red Banner came from Hong'e village; descendants earned distinct awards for their own exploits. Jakuna of the Plain Blue Banner has no securely recorded home or submission date. One hereditary award in his line was exceptionally transferred by imperial instruction to a granddaughter's husband. This particular exception cannot be treated as the ordinary inheritance rule for the entire surname.

Kinship, Succession, and Evidence

A niru commander supervised households and troops, whereas titles such as qidu wei and yunqiwei were hereditary military distinctions. Other appended lines include defence and assistant banner officers, guards, and document officials. The ancestral villages, original Manchu surname, and connections among branches still need independent verification.
