Family origins and documentary evidence

Majintai was a member of the Irgen Gioro clan registered under the Bordered Red Banner. His family was associated with Fe Ala and joined the emerging Manchu polity in its early period. Volume 14 of the eighteenth-century official *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Eight Banner Manchu Clans* records no office held by Majintai himself. Instead, it identifies several appointments among his descendants. His son Barji formerly served as a *qianfengxiao*, an officer of the Vanguard; his grandson Alishan as a *fangyu*, or Defence Officer; and another grandson, Zhangwu, as a *zhushi*, an administrative secretary.

Offices held by later generations

A third grandson, Sangnai, was recorded as a serving *xiaoqixiao*, an officer concerned with Banner soldiers, while Majintai's great-grandson Zhangnai was listed as a serving *siku*, an official responsible for stores or treasury holdings. Zhangwu and Zhangnai are separate individuals despite the shared first character in their Chinese transcriptions. These appointments cover military and civil administration: Vanguard and cavalry officers supervised soldiers, whereas a *zhushi* performed departmental business and a *siku* managed stored resources. The genealogy does not identify the department or treasury employing each descendant.

Limits of the record

The distinction between former and current appointments refers to the genealogy's compilation period; it does not supply appointment dates. The fathers of the three named grandsons are not individually identified, so their positions cannot be presented as stages in a single line of promotion. Fe Ala supplies a historical regional association, not a verified modern village address. Majintai's own career, the intervening paternal relationships, institutional assignments and exact terms of office require further evidence.
