Family origins

Tuoji belonged to the Irgen Gioro clan of the Bordered White Banner. The family had a historical association with Hemen and joined the early Manchu polity. Volume 15 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Eight Banner Manchu Clans* does not record an office held by Tuoji himself. Its main evidence concerns military service and merit titles acquired by descendants several generations later.

Two military careers in later generations

The fourth-generation descendant Guana was a *hujunxiao* who campaigned in Yunnan. Fighting at Shimankan, Huangcaoba and near the city of Yunnan brought him the hereditary rank of *qiduwei*. The honour passed through successors including his son Bana. In a distinct family branch, the seventh-generation descendant Dandai died in the campaign against the Dzungars at Hotong Horkhonor and was posthumously granted the rank of *yunqiwei*. Dandai's son Shuoweng Keli succeeded him. These were separate decorations and succession lines; they cannot be combined into one title or presented as honours won by Tuoji.

Civil appointments and recorded statuses

Other descendants held posts described as *siku* (storehouse administration), *zhushi* and *langzhong* (departmental administration), and *mingzan* (ceremonial proclamation or assistance). The record also notes a *jiansheng*, indicating an educational qualification rather than a government office. The deputy *hujunxiao* title of the seventh-generation descendant Mingdai should retain its deputy qualification. Without named ministries, no more precise departmental assignment is warranted.

Unsettled questions

The genealogy does not supply all intervening paternal relationships, the full succession history, or a secure modern location for Hemen. The original genealogical text and Banner service records are needed before these gaps can be resolved.
