Overview
He Erhui was a member of the Tongjia clan, Plain White Banner, whose ancestral home was Zhakumu. He submitted to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty and served as a hujunxiao (banner guard officer). See Volume 20 of the official *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*. The original genealogy records that his son, Seketeng, was a Yunqiwei, his grandson, Sudarhan, was a Yunqiwei and served as a third-class imperial bodyguard, Heda served as a deputy commander, and Qige was also a Yunqiwei.
The military officer position was a basic military post within the military guard. Imperial bodyguards were responsible for palace security, deputy commanders managed banner affairs or garrison military and political affairs, and Yunqiwei was a hereditary title based on merit. Official positions and hereditary titles could coexist; however, Sudarhan's records must be kept separately, and a single title cannot replace an actual guard rank. Another grandson, Zhehe, served as a military officer in the conquest of Chahar Burni, distinguished himself in the Battle of Dalu, and was awarded the title of Yunqiwei and appointed zuoling. His son, Tongfu, inherited the hereditary title; these military achievements belonged to his grandsons. The original genealogy also states that He Erhui was of the same clan and village as the Emanji (Eman (personal name; transcription provisional)), providing family connections but not specifying kinship. Zhakumu is the ancestral home, but its exact modern location and the person's term of office still require external verification.
