Overview
Dayali was a member of the Hadanara clan of the Plain Yellow Banner during the early Qing Dynasty. His ancestral home was Hadan, and he submitted to the Qing Dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty. Volume 23 of the official Qing Dynasty clan genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that he participated in the Shandong campaign as a non-official, and was the first to scale the city walls during the siege of Shenzhou, earning the title of Baturu and the rank of Qiduwei and Yunqiwei. He was promoted to First-class Qingche duwei through three imperial edicts. His grandson, Dahantai, inherited the title, but when Jin Qixian inherited it, the additional imperial edicts were removed, and he retained the rank of Qiduwei and Yunqiwei. Later, Jihai continued the inheritance. "Non-official" referred to those within the banner who did not hold official positions. "Baturu" here was a bestowed title, while hereditary status was another military merit award; the title could not be considered an actual military rank. Dayali's son, Gente, also participated in the campaign as a non-official, and was the second to scale the city walls during the attacks on Sishui County and Dingzhou, earning the title of Baturu and the rank of Qiduwei and Yunqiwei, thus establishing his own line of succession. The father first ascended Shenzhou, and the son second ascended Sishui and Dingzhou; these are three different battle records and cannot be combined into one person simply because they both received titles and hereditary positions. The original genealogy also lists the grandchildren's positions as seventh-rank officials, cavalry captains, and blue-feathered guards, etc., and these must be maintained as separate generations.
