Overview
Kude was a member of the Lijia clan of the Plain Red Banner during the early Qing Dynasty. Volume 33 of the official Qing Dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that his family originally resided in Jiefan, and that they submitted to the Qing Dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty. His grandson, Gaha, served as a youji (military officer), and his great-grandson, Humise, served as a director of the Ministry of Revenue, later receiving the title of Qiduwei by imperial decree. youji (military officer) was a military position, the Ministry of Revenue was in charge of finances, and director of the Ministry of Revenue was a title within the early Qing government; the hereditary title granted by imperial decree differed from the actual civil service position.
His great-great-grandson, Chanshibu, served as the Chancellor of the Imperial Academy. Zhuofuhe participated in the military campaign against Wu Sangui and was awarded the title of Yunqiwei for his meritorious service, which was inherited by his son, Gali. The Imperial Academy was the central government-run school, and the Chancellor was responsible for teaching and examinations; Yunqiwei was a hereditary title awarded for merit, and it is inappropriate to combine an educational official position with a military award in the same person's resume.
The family also had other officials at the departmental level, such as military officers, vanguard officers, and ceremonial officials, involved in administration, military affairs, and etiquette. Jiefan was the historical name of their ancestral home; the location of their military service is not evidence of their ancestral origin. The form of the character *de* in the subject’s name, the identification of the historical place Jiefan, the details of Humise’s appointment, and names represented by pictorial characters in the transmitted genealogy remain to be checked against the original edition. Their original names and official titles from each generation will be retained.
