Overview

Fei Yueerhun was a member of the Sakda clan of the Bordered Red Banner during the early Qing Dynasty. Volume 35 of the official Qing Dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that his family originally lived in Ningguta. They submitted to the Qing Dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty and were assigned to the position of zuoling (banner-company commander). The original text lists his great-grandson, Kalda, as the leader; his great-great-grandson, Murtai, served as Deputy Commander-in-Chief and zuoling; Chahatai served as Commander of the Imperial Guard and zuoling, and also held the title of Junior Guardian of the Heir Apparent. The generational order and organizational structure should be distinguished according to the original record, without adding details of the individuals personally leading the troops.

The zuoling was in charge of basic household registration and military records; the Deputy Commander-in-Chief assisted in managing banner affairs; and the Commander of the Imperial Guard managed the Imperial Guard's policies. The title of Junior Guardian of the Heir Apparent was an honorary title and cannot be directly stated as the actual instructor of the Crown Prince. His fifth-generation descendant, Chang Nai, died in battle against the Dzungars as a Commander of the Imperial Guard and zuoling, and was posthumously awarded the title of Yunqiwei (a military rank), which was inherited by his son, Chang Kui, who also served as zuoling.

Ningguta is a historical military and political region, and related relics exist in present-day Ning'an. Therefore, the early ancestral home of the family cannot be directly pinpointed to the later new city. The identities of Karda Daici, Wuerhu Di, the title of Taizi Shaobao, and the date of their deaths are yet to be verified. The military merits of their descendants are not attributed to Fei Yueerhun.
