Overview
Husang'a was a member of the Manchu Xitala clan, belonging to the Plain Blue Banner. His family had lived in Gaiji for generations, and he submitted to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty, serving as an infantry officer. His information can be found in Volume 43 of the official Qing dynasty compilation, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*. The Plain Blue Banner was one of the Eight Banners, and "Infantry Officer" was a specific position; banner affiliation indicated population and military/political affiliation, not a specific official appointment.
An Infantry Officer was a junior officer in the infantry system, responsible for matters such as patrolling the capital, gate control, and maintaining order. The original text only states that Husang'a held this position, without specifying which city gate or section of street he was responsible for. Therefore, it can be interpreted as the general duties of the position, not a specific patrol location.
His son, Kongnikan, served as a granary official; his grandson, Hundali, served as a captain; and his grandson, Huntai, served as a military advisor. The Vice Minister of the Granary was in charge of grain storage and related canal transport affairs, belonging to the administrative system supplying grain to the capital; the zuoling managed the bannermen and soldiers under his command; the Mingzan (a type of attendant) was responsible for guiding and chanting in ceremonies, ensuring participants completed actions and sequences according to ritual. These three positions respectively involved grain administration, banner affairs, and etiquette, and cannot be simply written as several generations of a family holding military positions. The modern equivalent of Gaiji and the dates of Husanga's various appointments are yet to be verified.
