Overview
Funeheng was a member of the Manchu Murcha clan, belonging to the Plain White Banner, originating from Suifen, and submitted to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty. The official Qing dynasty compilation, *the Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, Volume 43, records in its appendix that his grandson Xisana served as a Xieling (assistant commander), Bukuri as a Xiaoqixiao (valiant cavalry captain), and his great-grandson Hemi as a Mingzan (a type of official), while Yalantai served as a Lanling Shiwei (Blue-Lantern Guard) at the time of compilation. The Xieling was a military post in the Eight Banners, responsible for commanding subordinate units; the Xiaoqixiao managed the lower-level Xiaoqi cavalry. The original text does not specify which city Xisana was stationed in, so his location cannot be assumed simply because a Xieling was stationed there. The Lanling Shiwei belonged to the guard system, their title linked to their rank and attire, and their duties included guarding and accompanying the emperor; they were not the same as the Xieling or Xiaoqixiao positions. The Mingzan was a ceremonial official responsible for guiding and chanting during ceremonies, ensuring that court assemblies and other activities proceeded in the prescribed order. Hemi's holding this position indicates that this branch did not only hold military positions. The entry for Funeheng consolidates different duties under the name of the same ancestor. When compiling this information, the distinction between grandchildren and great-grandchildren should be maintained, and the Blue-feathered Guards should not be mistakenly written as third-class guards of the Prince's Palace. Funeheng's birth and death dates, official positions, specific location in Suifen, and the institution where he served are yet to be verified.
