Overview
Soroxi was a member of the Manchu Xingjia clan, belonging to the Plain White Banner, and hailing from the Macha region. He once served as a military officer. The official Qing dynasty compilation, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, Volume 43, lists him in a group whose year of submission is unknown. His son, Chanbu, served as a military commander, his grandson, Mayanga, served as a scribe, and his great-grandson, Bentai, served as a military officer at the time of compilation.
A military officer was a junior officer in the military organization, involved in soldier training, guard duty, and patrol management. A military commander was at a higher management level, overseeing related military affairs. The fact that father and son held positions as military officer and military commander respectively illustrates the difference in rank between the two generations, but it does not represent Soroxi's personal promotion from military officer to commander.
Mayanga's position as scribe was a separate clerical post, the Manchu title being transliterated as bithesi, responsible for official translation, copying, and document processing. This position differed in skills and tasks from the military ranks of the military, reflecting that not all descendants of this branch followed the same career path. The original text also refers to Bentai's current position as "currently holding office," which is relative to the time of the genealogy compilation and should not be interpreted as indicating that the position still exists today. The birth and death dates of Sorohi, the date of his surrender, the current location of Macha, and the office to which Mayanga belong are pending verification.
