Overview
The Sujia clan is a Manchu surname recorded in Volume 48 of the Qing Dynasty official genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*. The simplified form is Sujia. The general introduction states that the clan members were scattered in places such as Yehe, followed by separate records of families from different banners and origins. Yehe is geographically connected to the area around present-day Yehe in Siping, Jilin, but this is only one ancestral home and does not represent the birthplace of all Sujia clan members.
Biographies in this volume include Niyaxing'a of the Plain Red Banner Yehe, Manahan of the Plain Red Banner whose original place of origin is unknown, and Wubai of the Bordered Red Banner Niyaman. All three are listed as early surrenderers. Among their descendants, some obtained hereditary positions through military merit, while others served as clerks or garrison officials. The appendix also mentions Daizhuhu of the Plain White Banner Yehe, Bihede of the Plain Blue Banner Yehe, and Aixing'a of the Bordered Blue Banner Heilongjiang; and Su Baihe, a bondservant of the Bordered White Banner, whose ancestral home was Neyin, but whose year of surrender is unknown. Banner affiliation indicates organizational affiliation, while bondservants indicate specific social status. Surnames themselves do not determine whether all members of a clan belong to the same banner or are all bondservants. When reading materials arranged by clan, one should simultaneously retain the different origins, identities, and eras of each branch. The original Manchu script, the common lineage of each branch, and the correspondence with later Han surnames still require further verification.
