Overview
Ba Dou appears in Volume 57 of the *General Genealogy of Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, under the entry for the Gaojia clan. He belonged to the Plain Yellow Banner, and his family had lived in Jilin Ula for generations; the year of their submission is unknown. The original text lists him and Mang Se in the same group, without recording their official positions or family members.
Gaojia is a Manchu surname confirmed in the original text, and the clan's general description lists both Gaizhou and Jilin Ula. Ba Dou's branch specifically resides in Jilin Ula, so Gaizhou cannot be added to his migration route. Jilin Ula is historically connected to present-day Jilin City, and when used as an ancestral name, it did not refer to the entirety of present-day Jilin Province.
The Plain Yellow Banner was one of the Eight Banners, managing its soldiers, households, and military registers. Although Mang Se shared the same clan and ancestral home as Ba Dou, he belonged to the Plain White Banner, and the original text does not specify their kinship level; therefore, they cannot be considered brothers or members of the same banner. The group to which Badou belongs only states that the year of his surrender is unknown, and there is no explanation of Kangxi's withdrawal; we cannot simply apply this era to his resume or add his military rank, military achievements, and birth and death dates just because other Jilin Ula figures in this volume have experienced withdrawal.
