Overview
Lashan is a bondservant (BaoYi) of the Bordered Blue Banner under the Sunjia clan in Volume 57 of the *General Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*. His family had lived in the Changbai Mountains for generations, and he served as a third-class guard before submitting to the Qing dynasty during the Tiancong era. Tiancong was the reign title of Huang Taiji during the Later Jin period, corresponding to the historical background before the Qing dynasty entered the Central Plains.
The original book lists Sunjia as a Manchu surname, with its members scattered in places like Feiyalang'a. Lashan's personal entry mentions Changbai Mountains. "Bondservant" indicates a specific subordinate status within the banner, not equivalent to a general employee, nor an official rank or title. The Bordered Blue Banner indicates the banner color, and Changbai Mountains provides the family's original residence area, but does not specify the village.
A third-class guard was a rank within the guards of a prince's residence, responsible for the residence's security and attendants, different from the third-class imperial guards. The *Draft History of the Qing Dynasty* records the ranks of guards and their numbers within the prince's residence system, but Lashan's entry does not specify which prince's residence he served, so his master cannot be identified. Existing data does not list descendants or terms of service; Tiancong's submission and his former position as a guard can be described separately, and it is not possible to fabricate personal battles or guarding incidents based on the official system.
