Overview
The Wuchala clan is a Manchu surname listed in Volume 58 of the official genealogy of the Manchu clans of the Eight Banners, compiled during the Qianlong reign. Their ancestral homes were Anchulaku and Ula. Niersu of the Bordered Red Banner resided in Anchulaku, surrendering to the Qing dynasty at its beginning; his grandson, Wu Liangzai, served as a Xieling (assistant commander). Kexing'e of the Plain White Banner resided in Ula, and belonged to the group that withdrew from Khorchin during the Kangxi reign. Surrender and withdrawal are two different dates and migration records.
The Xieling was a military administrative title in the Eight Banners, related to the affairs of the garrison or troops under its jurisdiction. The original genealogy does not specify Wu Liangzai's exact post, so it cannot be supplemented as Xieling of a particular city. This position clearly belonged to Niersu's grandson and cannot be used as evidence of Niersu's own appointment.
The genealogy records both ancestral home in Ula and withdrawal from Khorchin, but does not directly state that Kexing'e was born in Khorchin, nor does it explain when his family left Ula. The significance of the clan entries lies in preserving the ancestral homes of the two branches, their different stages of banner affiliation and entry into the Qing dynasty's banner system, rather than presenting the entire surname as a single migration story. The original name of the mother village, "Wuchala," has been preserved. However, the Manchu spelling of the surname, the location of Anchulaku village, the kinship between the two branches, and the year of withdrawal still need to be verified.
