Overview

The Bayarqi clan is a Manchu surname recorded in Volume 62 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, an official compilation from the Qianlong reign. They were originally from the Nuoluo region. The genealogy states that the Kalantai clan belonged to the Bordered Blue Banner and submitted to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty. Their great-grandson, Heshang, served as a bow maker assistant commander during the compilation of the genealogy, and another great-grandson, Fobao, served as an acting deputy military commander. Here, "Heshang" follows the kinship marker and is the name of the official; it should not be interpreted literally as a monk.

The title of bow maker assistant commander is related to the organization and management of bow makers, reflecting that there were specialized positions in the Eight Banners' military supply production. This differed from the usual military rank of leading soldiers in combat; the specific bow makers under his jurisdiction still needs to be verified against the relevant institutional archives. The military commander system managed the military establishment, involving soldiers, training, and guard duties; "deputy" indicates a deputy position, and "acting" indicates that the position was filled by appointment; this nature of the appointment should be retained in the record.

The Bordered Blue Banner was the family's designated banner affiliation, while the positions of the two great-grandsons diverged into two directions: military supply and labor management, and guard management. The genealogy does not specify the official titles held by Kalantai himself. The specific administrative bodies of the Norodiwang and the Bow Craftsmen's Association, as well as the appointments and assessments of the two individuals, are not currently provided, nor are their positions or military achievements detailed.
