Overview

Jiang Youlu is a prominent figure in the Jiang clan section of Volume 77 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, belonging to the Bordered Yellow Banner. He was a native of Shenyang, but the year of his arrival is unknown. The genealogy records that his great-great-grandson, Jiang Wen, served as a scribe; his fourth-generation descendant, Jiang Wudase, served as a military officer; Jiang Kan served as an assistant secretary; and his fifth-generation descendant, Jiang Yong, served as a scribe. The genealogy does not list any official titles for Jiang Youlu himself, and the generational titles must be preserved according to the original text.

A scribe was a clerical official; the Manchu title *bithesi* is related to *bithe* (book, document), and their work involved copying, registration, and official document affairs. Although Jiang Wen and Jiang Yong shared the same title, they were not the same person, and the records of their two generations cannot be combined into one appointment, nor can it be assumed that the position was hereditary.

A military officer belonged to the military guard system and was related to guarding and protecting the troops; an assistant secretary was an official in the government office, assisting the secretary and managing affairs. The military and civilian positions of Jiang Wudase and Jiang Kan should be described separately, as the original text does not specify their exact agencies or terms of office. The mention of the "Baoyi Qigu" indicates family affiliation; the flag color is Bordered Yellow. This information cannot be omitted solely based on the surname Jiang, nor can unrecorded kinship branches be added based on adjacent entries.
