Overview
You Yu was a bondservant of the Plain Yellow Banner during the Qing Dynasty. The You family had long resided in Liaoyang, and the year of their submission is unknown. He once served as a scribe. Volume 77 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners* records that his son, You Banggui, served as a military officer, his grandson, Fengsheng, served as the head of the cattle and sheep herds, and his great-grandsons included Anning, Youbashi, and Antai. Anning's later roles as Imperial Guard and Jiangsu Provincial Governor require separate archival verification regarding punctuation and appointment dates; these positions cannot be attributed to You Yu.
A scribe was a clerical official; the Manchu title *bithesi* relates to *bithe*, meaning book or document, and involved handling copying and official paperwork. The head of the cattle and sheep herds managed the supply of related livestock; the Qingfeng Division and the pastoral system outside the Great Wall had corresponding organizations, whose responsibilities included livestock management and pastoral affairs; the specific location of the pastures is not given in this entry.
The Provincial Governor was a provincial-level civil and financial administrator, the Prefect was a prefectural-level local official, and the Imperial Guard was the emperor's bodyguard and attendants. An Tai's title of "Gongsheng" was an educational selection qualification, not an official position. The hierarchical differences in this position are significant; therefore, the correspondence between specific members and their titles should be preserved. Before confirming the correct punctuation for An Ning, detailed descriptions of individual achievements should not be added.
