Background and Banner Affiliation
Tutulun was a Guwalgiya figure of the Plain Blue Banner whose family came from Ula. The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners, volume 3, records his early submission and an explicit clan relationship with Ming'an. Tutulun's grandson Shuo'ge became a city-gate officer. Great-grandsons included Saibitu, a garrison officer; Weiqi, a vice-minister of the Board of Punishments; Fadan, a niru commander; and Chanpin, a guard officer who participated in campaigns in Yunnan and Burma.
Career, Campaigns, and Offices
City-gate security, garrison military administration, central judicial work, banner company command and guard-unit duty were separate occupational systems. They belonged to different descendants, not to a single official career under Tutulun's name. Chanpin participated in operations near Ava and the capture of the Southern Ming Prince of Gui, the Yongli emperor Zhu Youlang. His later campaigns included fighting around Yuanzhou and Pingxiang in Jiangxi and in Yunnan. He earned the hereditary rank qidu wei, subsequently transmitted through Sunbaozhu and Dulai. Dulai later served as general of Ningxia, a senior regional banner-command appointment.
Hereditary Honors and Source Limits
The genealogy also lists a more distant descendant, Bagese, as an assistant director at the Imperial Academy, a central institution of education. None of these offices can be inferred from the simple statement that Tutulun and Ming'an were members of the same clan. Precise family links and the ancestral settlement require further work.
