Overview
Gagamu was a member of the Lijia clan of the Plain Yellow Banner in the early Qing Dynasty. The official Qing Dynasty compilation, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, Volume 33, records him as a native of the Fola region. His grandson, Xunzhu, served as a military officer; Nikan served as a second-class imperial bodyguard; his great-grandson, Suiban, served as a military commander; Zhelin served as an infantry officer; Sahalian served as a cavalry officer; and Huase served as a Hanlin Academy reader and concurrently a captain. This section concludes by stating that he submitted to the Qing Dynasty in its early years.
The military officers, infantry, and cavalry belonged to different military systems, while the imperial bodyguards participated in the emperor's guard duties. The Hanlin Academy reader was a literary lecturer; the captain was in charge of the Eight Banners' basic household registration and military records. Huase's concurrent position connected literature and banner affairs, but this does not mean the Hanlin Academy was a banner camp; the institutional limitations of the Hanlin Academy cannot be ignored.
His great-great-grandson, Quanbao, served as an infantry officer; Lazhu served as a military officer; and Qibao served as a scribe during the compilation. These clerical positions had different natures from the aforementioned military and literary roles. The historical position of Fula, the term of office of Huase, and the location of each camp are pending verification; the succession of grandsons, great-grandsons, and great-great-grandsons is preserved, and the highest official position is not merged into Gagamu himself.
