Overview
Makara was a member of the Lijia clan of the Plain Yellow Banner during the early Qing Dynasty. The official Qing Dynasty genealogy, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, Volume 33, records him as a native of Samucha. His great-great-grandson, Geji, served as a garrison commander; his fourth-generation descendant, Nalantai, served as a deputy commander of the Imperial Guard; Daluntai served as a cavalry officer during the compilation; and Seruntai served as a military officer. The concluding remarks state that he submitted to the Qing Dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty. His ancestral home in Samucha and his banner affiliation with the Plain Yellow Banner provide geographical and institutional context.
The Eight Banners organized military service and also managed the banner's population and military register. The garrison commander was a military officer within the banner's ranks; the deputy commander of the Imperial Guard assisted in leading the guards and performing imperial guard duties; the military officer was responsible for his assigned guards; and the cavalry officer served in another banner system. Since the duties and ranks of these military positions differed, they could not all be rewritten as "general"; the "deputy" must be retained.
The original genealogy records the great-great-grandson and fourth-generation descendant in groups. The appointments of later generations do not directly prove Makara's official position, nor do they automatically indicate hereditary succession to the same position. The current status corresponds to the compilation period, and no exact date will be added based on this. The location of Samucha, the intergenerational relationship, and the organization of the guard are pending verification; all names and job titles already existing have been retained.
