Overview
Daixi was a member of the Xiketeli clan of the Plain Yellow Banner during the early Qing Dynasty. Volume 34 of the official Qing Dynasty compilation, *The Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records him as a native of the Xila River region. His great-grandson, Suotuo, served as a clerk; Yuena and Sujilun were seventh-rank officials; his great-great-grandson, Yatu, was a sixth-rank official; Changfu was an eighth-rank official at the time of compilation; and Funing was a scribe. The end of the record states that the family submitted to the Qing Dynasty at the beginning of its rule, and the records of great-grandsons and great-great-grandsons are preserved according to different generations.
A clerk was an administrative position in the government, while a scribe was a literary official responsible for copying and translating Manchu and Chinese documents. The ranks of seventh, sixth, and eighth grade only indicate the official level; in the Qing Dynasty, each rank was further divided into principal and subordinate positions, and there were various job titles. Since the original text did not contain official titles, it was impossible to uniformly change them to different ranks of scribe.
The Plain Yellow Banner indicates affiliation with one of the Eight Banners; Xila River indicates the family's ancestral home, not their official workplace. Yuena and Sujilun are listed together as seventh-rank officials, and are understood as two great-grandsons, not as a single long name; their original and current status is based on the compilation period. The location of the Xila River, the specific positions of officials of different ranks, the document institutions, and the connections with relatives are yet to be verified, and their official positions cannot be inferred from these descendants.
