Overview

Luntu was a member of the Manchu Xingjia clan, belonging to the Bordered Blue Banner, and hailed from the Orkhon region. He submitted to the Qing dynasty at its beginning and served as a military commander. Volume 43 of the official Qing dynasty genealogy, *The Complete Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, records that his son, Mudun, served as a First-Class Guard, his grandson, Kang'ai, served as a City Gate Captain, and his great-grandson, Zhuoshitai, served as a Qiduwei, forming a continuous record of military and guard positions across several generations.

A military commander was a military official position within the Eight Banners; a First-Class Guard was a rank within the guard system found in the princely residences, responsible for guard duties and accompanying the prince. This rank differed from the First-Class Imperial Guard of the Imperial Guard Office; the similarity in "First-Class" does not imply that Mudun served as an Imperial Guard. A City Gate Captain was responsible for the defense and management of city gates and was not a county official in charge of local finances and litigation.

A Qiduwei managed the soldiers under his command within the Eight Banners' cavalry organization, undertaking training and duty duties. Although Luntu, Mudun, Kang'ai, and Zhuoshitai all belonged to the same lineage, their official titles differed, and the original text does not record that they inherited the same official position. In this entry, Orkhon refers to the region of origin, Xingjia is the surname, and Bordered Blue Banner indicates organizational affiliation; these three levels of information should be interpreted separately. The present location of Orkhon, the princely residence to which Mudun belonged, and the city gate guarded by Kang'ai require further verification.
