Overview
Baozhu was a great-grandson of the Jingyilu family of the Hong'e clan. Volume 55 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners* records him as a "current Xiaoqixiao (LianQiXiao)." Here, "currently" refers to his historical position as reflected in the compilation materials, not his current status. This branch of the family had long resided in Jilin, and submitted to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty, changing their affiliation from the Plain White Banner to the Bordered White Banner.
The Xiaoqi (LianQi) was one of the basic cavalry organizations of the Eight Banners. The zuoling (ZuoLing) managed the lower-level military households, while the Xiaoqixiao assisted in the training, management, and military tasks of their subordinates, often holding the rank of sixth grade. This position belonged to the Banner system and should not be confused with the similarly named Qiduwei (QiDuWei): Qiduwei was a hereditary military title, while Xiaoqixiao was an actual position. The original text does not list Baozhu's hereditary military title.
The Jingyilu entry also records that some members of the same great-grandson's generation held positions such as Bi Tieshi (shi), Dianyi (DianYi), and Fu Dutong (FuDuTong), but these titles have different institutional backgrounds, and their common listing does not necessarily mean Baozhu held all these positions. The Jilin region can be traced back to the historical evolution of Jilin City and Jilin Ula, but the specific village has not yet been determined. Baozhu is a name that can appear repeatedly in the records of the Manchus. This entry is based on the relationship between Hong Eshi, the great-grandson of Jing Yilu, and Xiaoqixiao. It cannot be combined with Baozhu from other volumes based solely on the name.
