Overview
Hushitun is mentioned in Volume 55 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, under the entry for the Hong'e clan. He belonged to the Bordered White Banner, originally residing in Hada. He submitted to the Qing dynasty at the beginning of the dynasty and served as a military officer. His son, Ahanikan, served as a secretary and captain, as did his grandson, Edebei, and another grandson, Tuna, who served as Minister of Works.
The military officer position was a basic military rank within the military, while the secretary was a government official. A captain managed the household registration, land, and military records of their assigned area. The phrase "secretary and captain" indicates that one person held both a government office position and a banner-level administrative position; these should not be considered the same official title. The Minister of Works was a high-ranking official in the central government, whose duties were related to construction and manufacturing. The original record belongs to Sun Tuna, not Hushitun.
His descendants also held positions such as clerk, scribe, captain, and assistant secretary. The scribe (bithesi in Manchu) handled written affairs; the Hong'e surname originates from a mountain name. The Hada is the ancestral home of the family, and the official positions of each person cannot be determined. When the same name Hushitun appears in other clans, it should be identified according to banner affiliation, ancestral home, and kinship. The term of office of each generation, the agency to which the Langzhong (a type of official) belonged, and the specific residence of the Hada are yet to be verified. The appearance of the same title across generations does not automatically prove the same hereditary succession.
