Overview
The Torjia clan is a Manchu surname recorded in Volume 56 of the officially compiled *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*, and they resided in Qiqihar for generations. The main biography is of Guo Qinbulu, who belonged to the Bordered Yellow Banner. He submitted to the Qing during the Tiancong era and later participated in the Chahar-Burni campaign as a military officer. He distinguished himself in the Battle of Dalu and was awarded the title of Yunqiwei (a military rank). After his death, his son Yilantai inherited the title.
This information includes two distinct periods: his early submission and his later military service and the awarding of his title. Tiancong was the reign title of Huang Taiji during the Later Jin period, before the Qing entered the Central Plains; Guo Qinbulu's later military achievements cannot be placed during the Tiancong era, nor can his birth year be deduced from a brief record.
A military officer was a low-ranking officer in the military guard system, responsible for guard duties and accompanying troops on campaigns; Yunqiwei was a hereditary title awarded for military merit. Yilantai's inheritance indicates that the family's rank of military service was passed down, but it does not directly prove that he also served as a military officer or participated in the Battle of Dalu. The existing records for this surname focus on the Guo Qin Bulu family. The specific location of their ancestral home in Qiqihar, their age at the time of their departure for the campaign, the Manchu spelling of their surname, and the date of their inheritance still require further verification. A surname cannot be automatically merged with other "Jia" surnames simply because they sound similar.
