Overview
E Songguo is a figure under the "Mongol Chu Clan" section of Volume 57 of the *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*. He belonged to the Plain White Banner, and his family had lived in the Chu Mountain region of Ula Mongol for generations. The volume explicitly records that E Songguo himself served as a defense officer; this was his personal official position, not a record of his descendants. The book lists this branch as one of the people who came to the country at the beginning of the dynasty.
His eldest son, Ge Tebu, served as Infantry Commandant; his second son, Haizhou, served as Guard Commander. His grandsons, Changzai, Nartai, and Heli, all served as Cavalry Commanders; Liuge served as Guard Commander; Yakuna served as Assistant Secretary; and Tukeshan served as Clerk. His great-grandson, Shuangding, served as Clerk; Erden'e served as Clerk when the genealogy was compiled; and his great-great-grandson, Sahabu, served as Vanguard Commander when the genealogy was compiled. The positions held by multiple generations of individuals in the infantry, guard, clerk, and ministerial systems reflect the official composition of this branch.
"Mongol Chu Clan" here refers to a Manchu clan name containing the word "Mongol," but this does not mean that Esongguo's banner affiliation is the Eight Banners of Mongolia. Similarly, Ula Mongol Chushan must be preserved as a historical place name and cannot be arbitrarily replaced with a present-day administrative village.
