Overview
Volume 57 of the Qing Dynasty's *Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners* preserves clues about Chobai's banner affiliation and the official positions of his relatives. At this stage, the explicit content of the genealogy text serves as the boundary of fact. The genealogy places Chobai under the heading "Erhe Clan"; here, Chobai remains the main entry, and the surname heading only indicates the family arrangement in the genealogy and cannot replace the individual's name. According to the original entry, Chobai was a member of the Plain White Banner and resided in Suifen. The original entry only states "Plain White Banner member," without mentioning bondservants or Han soldiers. "Suifen place" preserves important clues about his ancestral home, but currently lacks sufficient place name evidence to confirm its modern location; the original name should be maintained and marked as pending further investigation. The Deputy Commander of the Imperial Guard assisted the Commander of the Imperial Guard in handling the affairs of his subordinate camp; "Deputy" is a component of the official title and cannot be omitted. The genealogy text subsequently preserves the following chain of relatives and official positions: his grandson, Qixina, was formerly a Deputy Commander of the Imperial Guard.
