Overview
The Niuhut clan is a Manchu surname recorded in Volume 58 of the official genealogy of the Manchu clans of the Eight Banners, compiled during the Qianlong reign. They originally resided in Kuyala, Hunchun. Both the Futner and Nangnu branches belonged to the Plain White Banner, but the year of their submission is unknown. The genealogy does not specify their exact kinship, so they cannot be considered brothers simply because they share the same surname and place.
Futner's grandson, Anduli, served as a Xiaoqixiao (a type of cavalry officer); his great-grandson, Bakshina, served as a zuoling (a type of military officer); Arzhu served as a Second-Class Imperial Guard; and Armenga served as a Xiaoqixiao. Nangnu's great-great-grandsons, Chebise and Sapukasha, served as Third-Class Imperial Guards; and his fourth-generation descendant, Talamushan, served as a Blue-Lanyard Imperial Guard. The generations and positions of each individual were different, and the official positions held by their descendants cannot be reversed to reflect the personal history of Futner or Nangnu.
Second-Class, Third-Class, and Blue-Lanyard Imperial Guards were different ranks within the emperor's guard and retinue system; zuoling was a basic-level administrative officer of the Eight Banners, while Xiaoqixiao was a basic-level military officer within the banner system. The officials listed in the genealogy cannot be directly referred to as military merit titles, nor can the inheritance relationship be inferred based on the same surname. The historical scope, name spelling, Manchu surname, and the years of service of each person in "Hunchun Kuyala" still need to be verified by cross-referencing the original engraving and archives. The original genealogy does not record the specific date of relocation.
