Overview
Takai is a figure recorded in Volume 59 of the *the Comprehensive Genealogy of the Manchu Clans of the Eight Banners*. Existing materials are insufficient to automatically merge him with other individuals of the same name in other historical records. The genealogy lists Takai under the heading "Qinggeli Clan," but the main subject of the entry remains Takai himself; the surname heading indicates the arrangement and cannot replace his full name. According to the original entry, Takai was a member of the Bordered Yellow Banner and surrendered during the Tiancong era. The genealogy subsequently preserves the following chain of relatives and positions: his son, Nuoendu, was originally a First-Class Imperial Guard; his grandson, Subuertu, was originally an Assistant Minister; and Esente was originally a Military Officer. The original entry only states "Bordered Yellow Banner member," without mentioning bondservants or Han soldiers. "Surrendered during the Tiancong era" limits the background of his surrender to the period when Huang Taiji used the Tiancong reign title, but without specifying a year, it cannot be arbitrarily converted to a particular year. This entry does not specify his ancestral residence, so place names cannot be borrowed from entries with the same surname, given name, or adjacent entries in the same volume. First-class imperial guards were a high-ranking position within the imperial guard system, responsible for duties such as guarding the palace and accompanying the emperor; the original text did not specify individual shifts or specific deeds. Assistant ministers were common officials in various ministries or departments of the Imperial Household Department, and their specific duties depended on the department they belonged to; they could not be appointed arbitrarily when the original text did not specify the institution.
